Course title: International Human Rights Law

The aim of this survey course in international human rights law is to introduce the student to the basic principles of international human rights and the institutions that operate within this area of law.

The course was developed by FSU (Florida State University) law professor, Dr. Talbot D’Alemberte and Dr. Mark Ellis, a lawyer and economist, and the executive director of the International Bar Association. This course will be dispensed via videoconference on the USEK main campus.

Much of the material for this course has been adapted from work done by the International Bar Association “IBA” and the College of Law of England and Wales. In addition, a selection of material has been adapted from a project by the IBA and the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights.

All students are urged to bring computers to the class with the understanding that they are to be used only for note taking and course-related research. The course will feature regular assessments and a number of exercises.

All students successfully completing the course will receive a certificate from the International Bar Association and from Florida State University.

Requirements:

Applicant must:

• be a Law student
• be fluent in English
• pass the application interview
• present an official transcript of grades

The course will be delivered each Wednesday from 3p.m. to 5 p.m. between the 28th of August and the 4th of December 2013. Presence is mandatory. All students are required to bring a laptop to every session.
